Repentance

  • To experience sorrow and conviction over past sins, and a turning away from future sin.
  • John the Baptist Preached Repentance
  • Jesus preached repentance

Various examples of people who preach repentance and those who did or did not repent.

  • SODOM AND GOMORRAH (Gensis 19)
    • Because these cities failed to repent, they were destroyed by fire.
  • JONAH Preach to the people Nineveh.
    • The people of Nineveh repented at the preaching of Jonah, Jesus said this fact would condemn those who refused to repent in our generation.
      • Matthew 12:41 The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.
  • JOHN THE BAPTIST
    • He commanded everyone in Judea to repent and prepare their hearts for the Kingdom of Heaven.
      • Matthew 3:2 And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
      • Mark 1:4 (KJV) John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
  • JESUS CHRIST
    • Jesus proclaimed:
      • Luke 13:3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
  • THE GREAT COMMISSION
    • The last words of Jesus before His ascension commanded repentance
      • Luke 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
  • THE DAY OF PENTECOST
    • Repentance is the initial step in the plan of salvation preached by Peter and the other apostles.
      • Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you is the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
