🧺 Decluttering the Christian Home

A Checklist for Peace, Purpose, and Purity

🧹 1. Items That Stir Fear or Darkness

  • Horror movies, occult-themed books, or games involving witchcraft, spells, or divination
  • Statues or symbols tied to false religions or spiritual confusion
“Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness…” — Ephesians 5:11
“You shall have no other gods before Me.” — Exodus 20:3

🧹 2. Objects That Promote Vanity or Materialism

  • Excessive beauty products, fashion items, or decor that feed comparison or pride
  • Magazines or media that glorify wealth, fame, or worldly success
“Do not love the world or the things in the world…” — 1 John 2:15
“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting…” — Proverbs 31:30

🧹 3. Entertainment That Conflicts with God’s Word

  • Music, movies, or books that normalize sin (sexual immorality, profanity, rebellion)
  • Anything that mocks faith, marriage, or biblical values
“I will set no wicked thing before my eyes…” — Psalm 101:3
“Whatever is true… think on these things.” — Philippians 4:8

🧹 4. Clutter That Distracts from Purpose

  • Unused gadgets, decor, or hobby items that crowd your space and mind
  • Excess paperwork, toys, or clothes that no longer serve your family’s mission
“Let us throw off everything that hinders…” — Hebrews 12:1
“She looks well to the ways of her household…” — Proverbs 31:27

🧹 5. Spiritual Clutter

  • Old journals or notes filled with bitterness, resentment, or unhealthy memories
  • Books or teachings that twist Scripture or promote legalism or fear
“Test everything; hold fast what is good.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:21
“You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” — John 8:32

Decluttering isn’t just about tidying—it’s about making room for what matters. As you go through your home, ask:

“Does this item help me walk in truth, peace, and love?”

If not, it may be time to let it go.
