The Creation: God’s Eternal Power and Wisdom

In the beginning God…

Genesis 1:1
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

Jeremiah 10:12
He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by his discretion.

Creation is the first revelation of God’s eternal power, wisdom, and divine nature. Before anything existed, God—Elohim—already was.


Vocabulary & Key Hebrew Terms

  • God – Elohim (אֱלֹהִים, ’ĕlōhîm) — plural of majesty; the supreme God; mighty, powerful, sovereign.
  • LORD – Jehovah (יְהֹוָה, Yehovah) — the self‑existent, eternal One.
  • Created – bara (בָּרָא, bārā’) — to create out of nothing; to shape, form, bring into existence.
  • Power – koach (כֹּחַ, kōaḥ) — strength, might, force, ability.
  • Wisdom – chokmah (חָכְמָה, ḥāḵmâ) — skill, mastery, divine wisdom; personified in Proverbs 8.

The Eternal Godhead in Creation

Creation is the work of the Eternal Godhead—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

1. Elohim Creates

“In the beginning God (Elohim) created (bara)…”

  • God creates
  • The Spirit of God moves
  • God speaks light into existence

2. The Word Creates

John 1:1–5, 14

  • The Word was God
  • All things were made by Him
  • The Word became flesh—Jesus Christ

Revelation 19:13

His name is called The Word of God.

3. The Son Holds All Things Together

Colossians 1:15–17

  • By Him all things were created
  • For Him all things exist
  • In Him all things consist

4. The Father and the Son Are One

John 10:30

I and my Father are one.

5. The Spirit Bears Witness

1 John 5:7–8

There are three that bear record in heaven… and these three are one.

Creation is the united work of the eternal Godhead.


Eternal Power in Creation

1. Creation by His Word

Psalm 33:6

By the word of the Lord were the heavens made…

Psalm 33:8–9

He spake, and it was done.

2. Creation Reveals God’s Nature

Romans 1:19–20

…his eternal power and Godhead… clearly seen…

3. Nothing Too Hard for God

Jeremiah 32:17

There is nothing too hard for thee.

4. He Formed the Earth to Be Inhabited

Isaiah 45:18

He created it not in vain… he formed it to be inhabited.

5. The Everlasting Creator

Isaiah 40:28

The everlasting God… fainteth not… neither is weary.

Eternal Wisdom in Creation

Proverbs 8:22–31

Wisdom speaks as a divine attribute present before creation:

  • “Before the mountains… before the hills…”
  • “When He prepared the heavens, I was there.”
  • “I was daily His delight.”
  • “Rejoicing in the habitable part of His earth.”

Creation is not random—it is the expression of God’s eternal wisdom.

Creation itself becomes a choir testifying to God’s glory.
