Easy Irish Soda Bread Raisin Bread Recipe for Beginners

Makes 6 or more servings.

What you need:

  • Cornmeal, for dusting
  • 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar, plus 1 tablespoon for sprinkling
  • 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons cold, unsalted butter, cut into 1/4-inch pieces
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup raisins or currants

What to do:

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Lightly oil a medium baking sheet and dust it with cornmeal.
  2. Mix the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, 1/4 cup of sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Add the butter and cut it into the dry ingredients (or rub it in with your fingers), until the mixture resembles a coarse meal.
  4. Make a well in the dry ingredients.
  5. In a separate small bowl, blend the buttermilk and egg Reserve 1½ tablespoons of this liquid, then add the remainder to the
    dry mixture along with the raisins.
  6. Stir well, until evenly mixed. The dough will be wet and sticky. Let it rest for 3 to 4 minutes.
  7. Shake a tablespoon or two of flour over the dough and work it into the dough with the back of a wooden spoon.
  8. Dust the work surface generously with flour, then scrape the dough out onto it.
  9. Using floured hands, shape (or coax) the dough into a ball.
  10. If the dough is too wet to handle (it is sticky!), just cup it with your floured hands to shape it into 2 rounds. Transfer the rounds to the sheet.
  11. Using a sharp serrated knife, make two shallow slashes in a crisscross on top of the bread.
  12. Brush the top with the reserved buttermilk mixture and sprinkle with 1 tablespoon of sugar.
  13. Bake on the center oven rack for 35 to 40 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the bottom sounds hollow when tapped.
  14. Cool the bread on a rack for at least 30 minutes before slicing.

Comprender a Jesús como el Pan de Vida

Los cereales son uno de los principales grupos de alimentos. Antiguamente, se ubicaban en la base de la Pirámide Alimenticia, ya que se recomendaba consumir más cereales que otros alimentos. Muchos de nuestros alimentos básicos de consumo diario provienen de este grupo. Según el diccionario, el pan es el “alimento básico; especialmente: el pan”. Así como el pan es importante hoy en día, era una fuente de alimento vital en tiempos de Jesús. Para la mayoría de las personas de aquella época, los cereales eran el alimento principal que consumían a diario. Jesús les dijo: «Yo soy el pan de vida; el que a mí viene, nunca tendrá hambre; y el que en mí cree, no tendrá sed jamás» (Juan 6:35). Esta fue una declaración trascendental.

Cuando los israelitas viajaban por el desierto, comieron maná del cielo. El maná era un tipo de pan que Dios les proporcionó. Lo recogían seis días a la semana. El sexto día recogían suficiente para el sábado, ya que no se les permitía trabajar en el día de reposo. Jesús dijo: «Yo soy el pan que descendió del cielo» (Juan 6:41).

Más tarde, Jesús dice: «Yo soy el pan vivo que descendió del cielo; si alguno come de este pan, vivirá para siempre; y el pan que yo daré es mi carne, la cual daré por la vida del mundo» (Juan 6:51). Aquí Jesús se refiere al pan espiritual. Una manera de comer este pan espiritual es leyendo la Biblia. «En el principio era el Verbo, y el Verbo estaba con Dios, y el Verbo era Dios» (Juan 1:1). En el libro de Marcos, «Jesús tomó pan, y lo bendijo, y lo partió, y les dio, y dijo: Tomad, comed; esto es mi cuerpo» (Marcos 14:22). Dado que Jesús es la Palabra, podemos “comer” su cuerpo estudiando su palabra y desarrollando una relación más cercana con Él. Es maravilloso saber que Jesús es nuestro pan de cada día. Él nos proveerá de pan físico y espiritual, porque Él es «el mismo ayer, y hoy, y por los siglos» (Hebreos 13:8).

Monkey Bread

Serves 8
Prep time 10 minutes
Cook time: 2-3 hours

MONKEY BREAD is a knotty-looking loaf of sweet bread made from balls of dough coated with cinnamon, sugar, and melted butter. It’s traditionally served warm so that the sticky baked pieces can be pulled apart. The name “monkey” refers to how you eat this sweet treat-with your hands.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter,
  • melted and cooled
  • Vegetable oil spray
  • 1/3 cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 2 teaspoons milk
  • 1 pound pizza dough, room temperature [store-bought]

Cooking Equipment

  • 3 small bowls
  • 8-inch round cake pan
  • Ruler
  • Kitchen shears
  • plastic wrap
  • Oven mitts
  • Cooling rack
  • Large plate
  • Spoon

What to do:

  1. In small bowl, stir together brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Place melted butter in second small bowl. Spray 8-inch round cake pan with vegetable oil spray.
  2. Spray counter lightly with vegetable oil spray.
  3. Place dough on greased counter and pat into 6-inch square. Use kitchen shears to cut dough into 36
  4. pieces roll each piece of dough into ball.
  5. Dip each ball in melted butter to coat, roll in brown sugar mixture, then place in greased pan.
  6. Cover bottom of pan with dough balls in single layer.
  7. Cover pans tightly with plastic wrap and leave in warm place until dough balls are puffy and have risen slightly (about 1/2 inch), 1 to 2 hours.
  8. Adjust oven rack to middle position and heat oven to 350 degrees. Discard plastic.
  9. Place pan in oven and bake until top of monkey bread is light golden brown, 20 to 25 minutes.
  10. Use oven mitts to remove monkey bread from oven (ask an adult to help).
  11. Place pan on cooling rack and let monkey bread cool for 5 minutes (no longer).
  12. Place large plate on top of pan. Ask an adult to carefully flip out monkey bread onto plate.
  13. Remove pan. Let cool for 10 minutes before glazing.
  14. In third small bowl, stir confectioners’ sugar and milk until smooth.
  15. Use spoon to drizzle glaze over monkey bread. Serve warm.

Easy Dinner rolls for the Holidays

Prep: 30 min. and rising time / Bake:15 min. /Makes: 1 dozen

Ingredient

  • 3 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp. Sugar
  • 1 pkg. (1/4 oz.) active dry yest
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1cup water
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Melted butter

Steps

  1. In a bowl, combine 2 cups of flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. In a saucepan, heat water and butter to 1200- 130°.
  2. Add to dry ingredients; beat until blended. Add egg; beat on low speed 30 seconds, then on high for 3 minutes. Stir in the remaining flour (batter will be stiff). Do not knead. Cover; let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 30 minutes.
  3. Stir the dough down. Fill 12 greased muffin cups half full. Cover and let the dough rise until doubled, about 15 minutes.
  4. Bake at 350° until golden brown, 15-20 minutes. Cool 1 minute before removing from pan to a wire rack. Brush tops with melted butter.

Easy Homemade Cinnamon Raisin Bread

Makes 2 loafs

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 cups All-purpose flour
  • 4 tsp yeast
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp corn syrup
  • 1/2 Cup cinnamon sugar
  • 1 cup Raisins
  • 2/3 cup shortening

UTENSILS

  • 1 Mixing bowl
  • 1 Mixing Spoon
  • Baking Pans
  • Measuring cups and Spoons
  • Towel for covering the dough

Directions

  1. Microwave water for about 1 minute in a glass Measuring cup [1cup], get out of Microwave and put in a mixing bowl.
  2. Put the yeast and Syrup in the mixing bowl.
  3. Add in flour, cinnamon sugar, and raisins in the bowl, mix well.
  4. Let it raise in the mixing bowl, With a towel over it, For about 1 hour.
  5. Get out pans, spray with cooking oil then preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  6. Cook for 40 to 50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let it cool a little then put butter over the bread to eat and enjoy.

Conchas (Mexican Sweet Bread)

INGREDIENTS for the bread:

  • 2 1/2 teaspoons yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 3/8 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup butter or margarine (melted)
  • 1 egg
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
    1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Ingredients for the toppings

  • 2/3 cup white sugar
    1/2 cup butter or margarine
    1 cup all-purpose flour
    2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract


DIRECTIONS:

  1. In a large bowl, stir together the yeast, warm water, and sugar. Make sure that it produces a lot of bubbles. If it does not bubble, the yeast is not working.
  2. Mix in the milk, 1/3 cup melted butter, salt, egg and half of the flour.
  3. Gradually mix in the remaining flour, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a floured counter to knead as soon as it pulls together enough.
  5. Knead until you can form a nice big ball of dough.
  6. Place in a large, greased bowl and turn the dough to coat.
  7. Cover and let rise in a warm place until the dough has doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  8. Make the topping while the dough rises.
    • In a medium bowl, beat 2/3 cup sugar and 1/2 cup butter until light and fluffy.
    • Stir in the flour until the mixture is the consistency of thick paste.
    • Divide into two parts and place one part in a separate bowl.
    • Mix cinnamon into one half, and vanilla into the other half.
  9. When the dough is done rising, cut into 12 even-sized pieces.
  10. Shape into balls, and place on a greased cookie sheet, spacing about 3 inches apart.
  11. Divide each bowl of topping into 6 balls, and pat flat.
  12. Place circles of topping on top of the dough balls patting down lightly.
  13. Use a knife to cut grooves in the topping like a clam shell.
  14. Cover and let rise until the dough has doubled in size, about 45 minutes.
  15. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  16. Bake for 20 minutes, or until lightly golden brown.

Ingredients:
  • ½ c. water
  • 1 stick of butter or margarine (1/4 cup)
  • 4 Tbsp. sugar
  • 2 pkg. dry yeast
  • 3-4 C. flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • Dash of salt
  • oil for frying
  • 1/2 C. Sugar
Directions:
  1. Combine water, butter, and 4 Tbsp. sugar in small pot.
  2. Heat to melt butter.
  3. Cool to lukewarm.
  4. Add yeast, 3 c. flour, and beaten eggs.
  5. Knead until smooth, adding more flour if necessary.
  6. Cover with damp dish towel and let rise 30 minutes.
  7. Punch down.
  8. Divide into portions the size of a golf ball.
  9. Shape into balls, rings, or braids.
  10. Let rise 30 minutes more.
  11. Heat 1 c. oil in frying pan.
  12. Fry donuts, turning to brown on all sides.
  13. Remove with slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  14. Put 1/2 C. Sugar in paper bag and shake warm donuts to cover (optional). Serve warm.

Easy Quick Yeast Rolls Recipe

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup of oil
  • 4 cups warm water.
  • 2 cups self-rising flour
  • l pack yeast
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1- 2 tablespoons of melted butter
Directions:
  1. Mix water, yeast, sugar and oil.
  2. Stir in self-rising flour.
  3. Knead together until smooth
  4. Make the rolls.
  5. Place on baking sheet.
  6. Let rise for 45-60 minutes.
  7. Bake at 425 for 15 minutes.
  8. After baking, brush tops of rolls with melted butter.

This banana nut bread recipe is delicious. My family loves it.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 3-4 very ripe bananas (mashed up)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts
Directions:
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and lightly grease 9 x 5-inch loaf pan
  2. Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Stir in the eggs, 1 at a time mixing well each time.
  4. Stir in vanilla and bananas.
  5. Stir in salt and baking powder.
  6. Stir in flour.
  7. Fold in the nuts.
  8. Pour into baking pan and bake for 1hr or until a case knife comes out clean.

Directions:
  1. Pre-heat oven to 350°.
  2. Butter pan.
  3. Mix all of the ingredients except butter together.
  4. Pour into prepared pan.
  5. Bake for about 25 minutes or until golden brown.
