Paganism and Idolatry: Biblical Insights

There are many laws in the Old Testament about Idolatry and Paganism. It is interesting to note that all Christians are still to obey these laws.

  • Acts 15:28
    • For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us not to place on you any greater burden than these essentials:
      • that you abstain from things sacrificed to idols,
      • and from [consuming] blood,
      • and from [eating the meat of] things that have been strangled,
      • and from sexual impurity. If you keep yourselves from these things, you will do well. Farewell.”
  • Galatians 5:19-21 ESV
    • Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
  • Revelation 21:8
    • But as for the cowards and unbelieving and abominable [who are devoid of character and personal integrity and practice or tolerate immorality], and murderers, and sorcerers [with intoxicating drugs], and idolaters and occultists [who practice and teach false religions], and all the liars [who knowingly deceive and twist truth], their part will be in the lake that blazes with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

Based on this information, it seems like a good idea to have a better understanding of the laws about Idolatry and Paganism. I am writing a multipart series on these laws. The links will be posted here as they become available.
