Grains: Godās Everyday Gift
1. Grains in Daily Life
- Grains are one of the main food groups.
- In the old Food Pyramid, grains were placed at the bottom because people needed to eat more of them than any other food group.
- Many everyday foodsābread, pasta, rice, tortillasācome from grains.
- Bread has long been calledĀ āthe staff of life,āĀ meaning it is a basic, essential food.
2. Bread in Bible Times
- Bread was just as important in Jesusā day as it is now.
- For most people in ancient Israel,Ā grains were the main food they ate every day.
- Because bread was so central to life, Jesus used it to teach deep spiritual truths.
āI am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger.ā
ā John 6:35
This was a powerful statement, especially for people whose daily survival depended on bread.
3. Manna in the Wilderness
- When the Israelites traveled through the wilderness, God fed them withĀ manna, a bread-like food from heaven.
- They gathered mannaĀ six days a week.
- On the sixth day, they gathered extra so they would not work on the Sabbath.
- Jesus connected Himself to this miracle:
āI am the bread which came down from heaven.ā
ā John 6:41
4. Jesus as the Living Bread
Jesus explained that He is not only physical bread but spiritual bread:
āI am the living bread⦠if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever.ā
ā John 6:51
This āeatingā is spiritualāreceiving His life, His teaching, and His presence.
5. Eating the Word
One way we āeatā this spiritual bread is by reading and studying the Bible.
āIn the beginning was the Word⦠and the Word was God.ā
ā John 1:1
Since Jesus is the Word, learning His teachings is like receiving nourishment for our souls.
In Markās Gospel:
āJesus took bread⦠and said, Take, eat: this is my body.ā
ā Mark 14:22
We āeatā His body spiritually by:
- Studying His Word
- Trusting Him
- Walking closely with Him
6. Jesus, Our Daily Bread
It is a comfort to know that Jesus provides:
- Physical breadĀ for our needs
- Spiritual breadĀ for our hearts
He never changes:
āJesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.ā
ā Hebrews 13:8
