This is a great basic white cake recipe.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups self-rising flour
- 1½ cups sugar
- 1/2 cups vegetable shortening
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla flavoring
- 4 egg whites (unbeaten)
Directions:
- Stir flour, sugar and shortening together.
- Add milk and flavoring. Beat vigorously with an electric mixer for about 2 minutes, scraping bowl frequently
- Add unbeaten egg whites and continue beating 2 more minutes, scraping bowl frequently. Batter will be thin.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Bake in two 8 inch greased and floured pans for 30 to 35 minutes.
- Cover with your favorite icing.
