Simple White Cake Recipe for Beginners

This is a great basic white cake recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups self-rising flour
  • 1½ cups sugar
  • 1/2 cups vegetable shortening
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla flavoring
  • 4 egg whites (unbeaten)

Directions:

  • Stir flour, sugar and shortening together.
  • Add milk and flavoring. Beat vigorously with an electric mixer for about 2 minutes, scraping bowl frequently
  • Add unbeaten egg whites and continue beating 2 more minutes, scraping bowl frequently. Batter will be thin.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Bake in two 8 inch greased and floured pans for 30 to 35 minutes.
  • Cover with your favorite icing.
