Key Insights for Studying the Book of Revelation
Approaching Scripture with Wisdom, Order, and Dependence on the Holy Spirit
The Book of Revelation is one of the most fascinating—and most misunderstood—books in the entire Bible. Many people hold different ideas about its symbols, timelines, and prophecies. Yet Scripture gives us simple, reliable principles that help us study this book with clarity and confidence.
As you explore Revelation, keep these foundational truths in mind:
- Revelation is complex, but not impossible to understand. God gave this book to the Church, not to confuse us, but to reveal His plan.
- The whole Bible speaks together. Prophecies about the end times appear throughout the Old Testament, and those passages must be considered when studying Revelation. The Bible always interprets itself.
- Truth is established by witnesses. Scripture teaches that every matter should be confirmed by “two or three witnesses.” If a principle or interpretation cannot be supported elsewhere in the Bible, it’s wise to pause and look again.
- God works in order. He desires everything to be done “decently and in order,” which means the structure of Revelation is intentional. The events are arranged according to God’s perfect design, not human speculation.
- The Holy Spirit is your guide. When you encounter difficult passages, ask God for understanding. He has promised that the Holy Spirit will lead and guide you into all truth. Prayer is essential—especially when studying Revelation or any challenging portion of Scripture.
As you walk through these insights, may your study of Revelation become not a source of confusion, but a journey of deeper faith, clearer understanding, and greater awe of God’s eternal plan.
