🌿 Spring Cleaning: A Season of Renewal
Spring is a time of newness. The air softens, the plants begin to bloom, and creation seems to wake up with fresh life. Everywhere we look, something is budding, growing, or stretching toward the light.
Long before “spring cleaning” became a modern tradition, God’s people practiced a meaningful kind of cleansing. In ancient Israel, as Passover approached, families would carefully remove every trace of leaven from their homes. Over time, leaven became a symbol of sin—a reminder that even a small amount can quietly spread and take root.
“Cleanse out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump…” — 1 Corinthians 5:7
Today, many of us still use spring as a time to refresh our homes—dusting corners, clearing clutter, and opening the windows to let in the breeze. But as we clean the spaces around us, it’s wise to pause and look inward as well.
Just as a home naturally gathers dust, clutter, and forgotten things, our hearts and lives can accumulate attitudes, habits, and distractions that need to be cleared away.
“Search me, O God, and know my heart… and lead me in the way everlasting.” — Psalm 139:23–24
Spring invites us not only to tidy our homes, but to welcome God’s renewing work in our souls. As we sweep, sort, and refresh, we can ask Him to do the same within us—removing what doesn’t belong and restoring what brings life.
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” — Psalm 51:10
