💌 Letters from the Trenches
Life in the trenches was muddy, cold, and dangerous. Soldiers had to stay in long, narrow ditches called trenches to keep safe from enemy fire. The ground was wet, and sometimes rats and insects crawled nearby. It wasn’t easy to sleep or stay clean.
But even in such hard times, soldiers found ways to keep their hearts strong.
One of the best ways was by writing letters to their families and friends at home.
When soldiers had a little free time, they took out paper and pencils to write about their day — the weather, their friends, and how much they missed home.
They told stories to make their loved ones smile and asked about life back home: the garden, the pets, and the children growing up.
These letters were a bridge of love and hope.
Families waited eagerly for the mail, and when a letter arrived, it was read again and again.
Even though the war was far away, words helped people feel close.
