🎣 Going Fishing: Pretend Activity

Objective

Use problem‑solving skills to design and build fish, worms, hooks, fishing line, and fishing poles using basic art supplies.

Materials

  • Crayons or markers
  • Scissors
  • Paper
  • String or dental floss
  • Tape
  • small magnets (optional)

Procedure

  1. Examine the provided materials.
  2. Brainstorm creative ways to make fish, worms, hooks, fishing poles, and fishing line from what you have.
  3. Create your fishing items using your chosen designs.
  4. Simulate the fishing process once your items are complete.

Tips

  • Children can draw and cut out fish and worms from paper.
  • Hooks can be made from sticky tape.
  • Fishing poles can be rolled and taped paper tubes.
  • Fishing line can be made from string or dental floss.
  • To simulate fishing, children can “fish” over the side of a chair or couch.
    • One person replaces the worm with a fish and tugs on the line to mimic a nibble and bite.
    • The others then reel in and “catch” the fish.
