Jesus and the Seven Days of Creation

Jesus and the Seven Days of Creation

Seeing God’s Provision in Creation and in Christ

In the beginning, God created everything humanity would ever need. Day by day, He shaped a world perfectly suited for life—light to see by, waters to sustain, land to dwell upon, plants for food, seasons for rhythm, creatures for companionship, and finally, humans made in His own image. Creation was complete, harmonious, and good. God prepared a perfect home for His people.

But sin entered the world, and what God made good became fractured. The beauty remained, but it was shadowed by brokenness—thorns in the ground, sorrow in the heart, and death woven into the story of humanity.

Yet God did not leave His creation without hope. Just as everything we needed for life was given in the first creation, everything we need for restoration is given in Jesus. Through Him, God’s work of making all things new has begun. He brings light into darkness, order into chaos, life into what was dead, and hope into every place touched by sin. In Christ, the Creator Himself steps into His creation to redeem it.

When we look at the seven days of creation, we see more than a sequence of events—we see a portrait of God’s character.

  • His wisdom in the order of each day.
  • His generosity in providing before there was even a need.
  • His power in speaking worlds into existence.
  • His love in preparing a place for humanity.

And when we look at Jesus, we see those same attributes—wisdom, generosity, power, and love—now revealed in human form. The One who said, “Let there be light,” is the same One who says, “I am the Light of the world.” The One who formed life from the dust is the same One who breathes new life into our hearts. The One who rested on the seventh day is the same One who gives rest to our souls.

Creation week shows us who God is.
Jesus shows us that same God drawing near to restore what was lost.

DayCreationAttributes of God
1st DayLight
And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.  And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
Jesus is the Light of the world
John 8:12
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
2nd DayAtmosphere
And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.
Acts 17:27-28
That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:
28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.
3rd DayDry land & Plants
And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so. And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good. And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the third day.
Root of Jesse
Romans 15:12
And again, Esaias saith, There shall be a root of Jesse, and he that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles trust.
Branch
Isaiah 11:1-2
And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots: And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord;
Vine and Branches
John 15:1-2
I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
4th DaySun, Moon, and Stars
And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.
Bright and Morning Star
Revelation 22:16
Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.
The Lamb is the Light
Revelation 21:23
And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
5th DayFish and Birds: And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.
21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.
23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
Fishers of Men
Mark 1:17
And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.
Dove
Matthew 3:16
And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a doveand lighting upon him:
6th Day Animals & Humans
And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Lamb of God
John 1:29
The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
Lion of Judah
Revelation 5:5
And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.
2nd Adam
1 Corinthians 15:47
The first man is of the earth, earthy; the second man is the Lord from heaven.
7th DayRest
And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.
Matthew 11:28
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Hebrews 4:1-5
Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.
