🌧️ Humidity is one of the silent destroyers of home electronics

1. Corrosion begins long before anything “breaks”

Moisture settles on metal contacts and circuit boards. Over time it creates:

  • rust
  • mineral buildup
  • weakened solder joints
  • intermittent failures

People think electronics “just died,” but humidity was killing them slowly.

2. Sensors are especially vulnerable

Smoke alarms, CO detectors, thermostats, dehumidifiers, and even appliances rely on tiny sensors.
Humidity can:

  • coat the sensor
  • confuse the reading
  • cause false alarms
  • shorten the lifespan

Your false alarm is a perfect example.

3. Condensation is worse than humidity

When warm, moist air hits a cool device, droplets form inside the electronics.
This can short out:

  • alarms
  • outlets
  • power strips
  • chargers
  • LED lights
  • refrigerators and freezers

People rarely connect the dots.
