1. Early Life (c. 1040–1025 BC)

• Birth in Bethlehem — youngest son of Jesse.
• Shepherd — protects flock from lion and bear.
• Anointed by Samuel
• Plays the harp for Saul — becomes his armor-bearer.

2. Rise to Prominence (c. 1025–1010 BC)

• Kills Goliath (1 Sam 17).
• Becomes a military leader — “Saul has slain his thousands, David his ten thousands.”
• Saul becomes jealous — David flees.
• Lives as a fugitive — in caves, wilderness, Philistine territory.
• Marries Michal, later Abigail and Ahinoam.
• Spared Saul twice — refuses to kill the Lord’s anointed.

3. David Becomes King (1010 BC)

• Child dies; Solomon later born.

6. Family Turmoil (c. 990–975 BC)

• Amnon assaults Tamar.
• Absalom kills Amnon.
• Absalom rebels — David flees Jerusalem.

7. Later Military Events (c. 970 BC)

Abishai rescues David from Ishbibenob (2 Sam 21:15–17).

• David is older and weaker.
