Jesus

  • Luke 5:15-16 But so much the more went there a fame abroad of him: and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by him of their infirmities.  And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed.
    • He went to a place of solitary.
      • Many times you need to be alone with God without some many distractions.
    • Luke 6:12-13  And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles;
      • Jesus prayed before selecting the disciples.
  • Luke 22:39-46  And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him. And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation. And he was withdrawn from them about a stone’s cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him. And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground. And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow, And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation
    •  Jesus prayed in the garden before being arrested and lead to the cross.

4.      Elijah

  • James 5:16-18 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.  And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

  • 1 Kings 18:41-46  And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain. So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees, And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times. And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man’s hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down that the rain stop thee not. And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel. And the hand of the Lord was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.

Understanding the Curses in Genesis 3: A Deep Dive

After the sin of Adam and Eve, God pronounced judgement. This came in the form of four curses and the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden.

  1. The Curse on the Devil
    • The first curse was on the serpent, the devil.
    • Genesis 3:14 And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

  2. Curse on the Woman
    • The second curse was on the woman.
    • Genesis 3:16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
    • This means that at one time childbearing would not have been so difficult. This is also where God placed the man over women. This does not mean that men are to be mean, hateful, or cruel.
    • Ephesians 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
    • Colossians 3:18 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord.
    • Colossians 3:19 Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.
    • It is noted that husbands should love their wives as Christ loved the church. Recall the depth of Jesus’ love for the church, to the extent that He endured a brutal death on the cross for it. Likewise, wives are called to submit to their husbands’ leadership.
  3. Curse on the Land
    • The third curse was upon the land.
    • Genesis 3:17-18 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life; Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;
    • The curse rendered the cultivation of food more challenging. However, work itself was not a curse; from the outset, the man and woman were tasked with tending to the garden and the animals.
  4. Curse on the Man
    • The fourth curse was on the man, Adam.
    • Genesis 3:19  In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
    • The curse foretold a fate of mortality, proclaiming that all would one day turn to dust. It further stated that humans must toil diligently simply to sustain life.

Amidst the curses, not everything was lost. God provided a glimmer of hope, promising a savior who would ultimately defeat the devil. Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. One thing that is interesting to note about this scripture is that women don’t have seed they have eggs. To say that from the seed of woman would come anything is to say that she would be the vessel from which God would send forth the deliver. We now know that is how God did it.  Luke 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. Later Jesus was crucified on the cross.  Matthew 27:33 And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull,

Mark 15:22 And they bring him unto the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, The place of a skull.
John 19:17 And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:
It is recounted that God proclaimed Jesus would crush the serpent’s head, while the serpent would bruise Jesus’ heel. Symbolically, placing a cross into a skull represents the crushing of the serpent’s head. Similarly, driving nails through Jesus’ heels would be akin to the prophesied bruising.
God showed mercy to Adam and Eve by instructing them on how to cover their sin. They hid themselves due to the shame of nakedness, which was a result of sin. To address this, God fashioned garments for them from animal skins, marking the first death. Genesis 3:21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them Hebrews 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission. The animal’s death involved the shedding of blood, symbolizing the initial act of sacrifice.
Lastly, Adam and Eve is driven from the only home that they had ever knew. Genesis 3:22-24 And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever: Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken. So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life. They were now separated from God. Cherubims prevented them from accessing the Tree of Life. Man has been trying in various was to get back to that tree ever since. Jesus in the only way. John 14:6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. We must except Jesus in order to get back to the tree of life. That tree is now in Heaven.
Revelation 22:13-15 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.
The “I” in the above verse is Jesus.

Inclusive Salvation: Who Can Be Forgiven by God?

All people can be forgiven by God. Even the ones you don’t like. This may come as a shock to some. Some may say that this one or that one has done things that even God can’t forgive. This is only 1 unforgiveable sin. Matthew 12:31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.

This sin takes work and knowledge of the Holy Ghost. No one is excluded because of their current job, looks, skin color, past, place of birth, or income. It is hurtful and wrong to put yourself as judge and jury over people. Matthew 10:32-33 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. This is Jesus talking. He is saying whosoever will. That is inclusive of everyone. Throughout history people have mistakenly thought that certain people were too far gone to be saved. I am here to tell you that 99.999% of the time that is wrong.  Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
We are commanded to teach everyone that we meet in this world. That includes all and all means all. 
Stop judging and start obeying God. God does not look at the outward appearance but the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7 But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.  God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. How he thought then is still how he thinks today. 
God called us to teach. As the people are taught, they will confirm to the will of God. God’s will is not always your will. We are simply to teach the whole word of God. God’s Word will take over and do what it was sent out to do. Isaiah 55:11
So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.
God has chosen us to carry the word and speak it. He will then accomplish his will.

The Power of Children’s Prayer Requests

 

As a child, I recall the preacher inviting prayer requests at the start of each service. At the tender age of seven, I had a significant request: I wanted prayers for my father’s salvation. The laughter that ensued after I voiced my request still lingers in my memory. The congregation deemed it an impossible plea, for my father was a long-haul truck driver, a profession they considered beyond redemption at that time and place.

Prayer requests made by children should be taken seriously as they are expressions of their growing faith. They learn to trust by bringing their concerns to Jesus, as it is said, “Cast all your cares upon Him, for He cares for you.” Every prayer is significant to God, regardless of whether it seems trivial or unattainable to us. Indeed, God specializes in the impossible and in time, my father did come to recognize Jesus as his savior.

Also, remember that not every sickness is a punishment. However, many times in the Bible that was the case. Let’s be proactive by trying to obey God in every area of our lives and being quick to repent when we fail. 
  • 2 Corinthians 12:7
    And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.
Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
Sometimes we go through things so we can be at the right place at the right time to help someone else.

Maintaining Reverence: Guidelines for Church Conduct

Historically, churches have taught the importance of respect within the House of God. While some rules may have seemed overly strict, they were established with good intentions. Ecclesiastes 5:1 says, “Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil.” Proverbs 1:7
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

It is important to hold reverence for God, the creator of the universe. This means to have a high degree of respect for God.

Consider an instance illustrating the consequences of not holding God’s House in high regard. On one occasion, while in a church during a time designated for fellowship, I witnessed a young boy, approximately seven years old, striking and kicking another boy, who appeared to be around 12 or 13 years old. No one stopped the children. This behavior displayed a lack of respect for both God and the surrounding congregation, clearly not reflecting God’s love. John 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

Children should be taught appropriate behavior. By the age of five, most are capable of distinguishing between a playground and a place of worship. If they cannot, it may indicate an issue. Could it be that the parents are not effectively teaching their children? Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. This “Training” needs to start as early in a child’s life as possible.
We need to remember to be respectful in the House of God. This means no running (without a good reason), No yelling across the room, No roughhousing, No foul language, No disruptive behavior (distractive behavior). I think you can get the general idea. We are there for Prayer, Learning the Word of God, Godly Fellowship, and to Praise and Worship Jesus.

The Fall of Man: Lessons from Adam and Eve

The Fall of Man
Adam and Eve lived happily in the garden for a period of time. No one knows exactly how long they lived in the garden. However, most of us have heard about the fateful day when Eve was deceived. Let’s look at the fateful events of that day. 

Eve apparently had gone near the Tree of Knowledge of Good and evil. The devil saw his opportunity to pervert the people that God had so lovingly created. 

  Genesis 3:1-7 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?  And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

The first thing that I notice is that Eve did not really know or comprehend the words of God. She added to what he had said by saying “neither shall ye touch it”. She also weakened what he said by saying, “lest ye die.” Lest means that it is possible, but not a certainty. When you turn to the New Testament, we see Paul’s writing.  1 Timothy 2:13-14 For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. 

Now let’s compare what Satan said to what God said. 

Satan’s words: Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

God’s Words:  And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Satan started with the negative. God started with a positive. Satan likes to point out that you are missing out on something. God shows what you the things that you do have. 

This tactic works well with those who don’t really know the word of God for themselves. This is why we are commanded in 2 Timothy 2:15

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Satan also attacked God’s motives. He made it seem like God was withholding good from Adam and Eve.  “And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.”
Adam messed up by not doing a good job of explaining the Word of God to Eve. She was deceived for lack of knowledge. The sad part is Adam knew that eating of that tree was in disobedience to God’s Word. Consider these scriptures:
Romans 5:12-19 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:(For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.  For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
Thankfully, Jesus came to Save us from our sins.

Biblical Verses for Thankfulness This Thanksgiving

Tis the season for strife. It is amazing how a day called Thanksgiving causes so many problems.  It was originally meant to be a day of prayer and thanks giving.  

Now it has turned into a time of strife and stress for many.

Thanksgiving is not a holiday mentioned in the Bible, but the idea of giving thanks is a theme all through the Bible.

Here are some scriptures to help you give thanks.

Nehemiah 12:27 And at the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem they sought the Levites out of all their places, to bring them to Jerusalem, to keep the dedication with gladness, both with thanksgivings, and with singing, with cymbals, psalteries, and with harps.

Nehemiah 12:46 For in the days of David and Asaph of old there were chief of the singers, and songs of praise and thanksgiving unto God.

Psalm 26:7 That I may publish with the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all thy wondrous works.

Psalm 50:14 Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High:

Psalm 69:30 I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.

Psalm 95:2 Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms.

Psalm 100:4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

Psalm 107:22 And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing.

Psalm 116:17 I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the Lord.

Psalm 147:7 Sing unto the Lord with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God:

Isaiah 51:3 For the Lord shall comfort Zion: he will comfort all her waste places; and he will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the Lord; joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody.

Jeremiah 30:19 And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of them that make merry: and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small.

Daily Prayer for Healing: Trusting in God’s Promises

I am hearing about many people having various illnesses and diseases. Here’s an example of how to pray the Word of God over your situation. Father, in the name of Jesus, I come to you with a humble heart asking for healing.  As it is written in your word, the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he has committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. At this time, I am repenting of all my sins. I am declaring that my body is the temple of the Holy Spirit.  I think you for sending Your Word, who is Jesus, to heal me and deliver me from all destructions. Thank you that Jesus was wounded for my sins and with His stripes I am healed.  Thank you that as it says in Proverbs, “Your words are life and health to those that find and read them. I will bless you O Lord with all my soul.  I will praise you for forgiving me of all my sins.  I thank you for healing all of my diseases.  I give you glory and honor in Jesus’ Holy name.  Amen Now continue to pray daily and read the Word of God daily while putting your trust in Jesus.
