☀️ Sun Protection & Hydration

Stewardship under the open sky

Outdoor time is a gift — sometimes heat protection becomes an act of wisdom and care.

🌞 Sun Protection Basics

Keeping skin safe is simple when the whole family follows the same rhythm.

  • Apply broad‑spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30+) 15 minutes before going outside.
  • Reapply every 2 hours, or after swimming or sweating.
  • Choose shade breaks often — trees, umbrellas, porches.
  • Wear lightweight long sleeves, hats, and sunglasses.
  • Avoid peak sun hours when possible (10 AM–4 PM).

🧢 Protective Clothing & Gear

Clothing can be one of the gentlest forms of sun protection.

  • Wide‑brim hats for children and adults.
  • UV‑blocking shirts or rash guards for long outdoor play.
  • Sunglasses with UV protection for sensitive eyes.
  • Light colors to reflect heat.

💧 Hydration Habits

Hydration keeps the body steady, especially in Southern humidity.

  • Offer water every 20–30 minutes during outdoor play.
  • Keep a water bottle for each child — labeled and easy to grab.
  • Add hydrating foods: watermelon, oranges, cucumbers.
  • Avoid sugary drinks during heat; they slow hydration.
  • Teach children: “Sip before you feel thirsty.”

🥵 Heat Awareness & Early Signs

Recognizing early symptoms prevents emergencies.

  • Flushed cheeks
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Sluggishness
  • Less sweating

If any of the above appear, move to shade, sip water, and rest.

🕊️ Family Reflection

“The Lord is your shade at your right hand.” — Psalm 121:5 Protection is stewardship — caring for the bodies God entrusted to us.
