A 6‑Part Series Comparing Proverbs, Wisdom of Solomon, and Biblical Wisdom


SESSION 1 — What Is Biblical Wisdom?

Core Scriptures: Proverbs 1:1–7; James 1:5; Psalm 111:10

Goals:

  • Define wisdom biblically
  • Distinguish wisdom from knowledge
  • Introduce the series and its sources

Key Points:

  • Wisdom = skill for living God’s way
  • Begins with “the fear of the Lord”
  • Wisdom is moral, relational, and practical
  • God invites us to ask for wisdom

Discussion:

  • What’s the difference between being smart and being wise
  • Where do you see wisdom lacking in our culture

SESSION 2 — Lady Wisdom: Proverbs’ Portrait of God’s Wisdom

Core Scriptures: Proverbs 8–9; Proverbs 3:13–18

Goals:

  • Explore the personification of Wisdom
  • Understand Wisdom’s role in creation
  • Connect Proverbs to the rest of Scripture

Key Points:

  • Wisdom calls out publicly, inviting all
  • Wisdom is woven into creation
  • Wisdom leads to life, honor, and peace
  • The “Seven Pillars” (Prov 9:1) as a framework for godly living

Discussion:

  • What does it mean to “hear” Wisdom’s voice
  • Which pillar do you feel God is strengthening in you

SESSION 3 — Wisdom of Solomon: A Jewish Voice in a Greek World

Core Scriptures: Wisdom 1–5 (overview); Romans 1:18–32

Goals:

  • Understand the historical context
  • Identify what aligns with Scripture
  • Identify what diverges

Key Points:

  • Written to encourage faithfulness under cultural pressure
  • Strong themes: righteousness, immortality, divine justice
  • Aligns with Scripture in morality and monotheism
  • Diverges in Greek‑style views of the soul and immortality

Discussion:

  • How does cultural pressure affect your walk with God
  • What parts of Wisdom of Solomon feel familiar or foreign

SESSION 4 — Wisdom, Immortality, and the Afterlife

Core Scriptures: Wisdom 3:1–9; Daniel 12:1–3; 1 Corinthians 15

Goals:

  • Compare the book’s view of immortality with Scripture
  • Clarify biblical resurrection hope
  • Strengthen confidence in God’s justice

Key Points:

  • Wisdom of Solomon: immortality as inherent
  • Scripture: immortality as God’s gift
  • Resurrection is central to biblical hope
  • God vindicates the righteous in His time

Discussion:

  • How does resurrection hope shape daily life
  • Why does it matter that immortality is God’s gift

SESSION 5 — Wisdom in Action: Righteous vs. Wicked

Core Scriptures: Proverbs 10–15; Wisdom 1–5; Psalm 1

Goals:

  • Compare moral teaching across the books
  • Show continuity in God’s call to righteousness
  • Apply wisdom to real-life choices

Key Points:

  • Both books contrast righteous and wicked paths
  • Proverbs focuses on earthly consequences
  • Wisdom of Solomon emphasizes eternal consequences
  • Scripture as a whole: righteousness is covenant faithfulness

Discussion:

  • Where do you see the “two paths” in your own life
  • What helps you stay on the path of wisdom

SESSION 6 — Christ: The Fulfillment of God’s Wisdom

Core Scriptures: 1 Corinthians 1:24, 30; Colossians 2:2–3; Matthew 12:42

Goals:

  • Show how Jesus embodies divine Wisdom
  • Tie the whole series together
  • Lead into discipleship and application

Key Points:

  • Christ is the Wisdom of God
  • All wisdom treasures are found in Him
  • Proverbs points to Him as the ultimate Wise King
  • Wisdom of Solomon anticipates a righteous, divine deliverer
  • Walking in wisdom = walking with Christ

Discussion:

  • How does seeing Jesus as Wisdom change your walk
  • What is one wise step God is calling you to take next
