Some families pass down heirlooms.
Some pass down stories.
And some — without meaning to — pass down wounds, contradictions, and unfinished faith.
Yet even in those families, God keeps working.
One man helped build a church before he ever surrendered his heart.
He cleared the land, raised the beams, and held a preaching license he never used.
His hands were busy with holy work long before his soul was ready for holy surrender.
Years later, grace found him — not because he was worthy, but because God was patient.
His son stepped into ministry with a Bible in one hand and a bottle in the other.
He preached truth while bound by what he could not overcome.
Some would call it shameful.
Heaven saw a man torn between calling and captivity — a soul God refused to abandon.
These were not perfect men.
They were not polished saints.
They were not the kind of ancestors people brag about in testimonies.
But they were the kind God specializes in redeeming.
And somehow — through all the fractures, failures, and unfinished stories — the flame survived.
Not because the men were strong.
Not because the heritage was clean.
Not because the lineage was holy.
It survived because God refused to let it die.
He preserved the spark through:
• a builder who wasn’t saved yet
• a preacher who wasn’t free yet
• a mother who wrote her life story in pain
• a daughter who will one day give that story a voice – the fourth generation, carrying a flame that should have gone out long ago
This is not a legacy of perfection.
It is a legacy of relentless mercy.
A God who keeps reaching.
A God who keeps redeeming.
A God who keeps the flame alive even when the hands holding it tremble.
Some families inherit holiness.
Mine inherited grace — the kind that refuses to give up.
