The Significance of Jesus’ Blood for Salvation

Why Did Jesus have to died? Why is the blood of Jesus so important?

In the beginning God created the Heavens and the Earth. He created the animals and the plants. He then created man.

  • Genesis 2:15-17
    • So the Lord God took the man [He had made] and settled him in the Garden of Eden to cultivate and keep it.
    • And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may freely (unconditionally) eat [the fruit] from every tree of the garden;
    • but [only] from the tree of the knowledge (recognition) of good and evil you shall not eat, otherwise on the day that you eat from it, you shall most certainly die [because of your disobedience].”

Later Adam and Eve disobeyed.

  • Genesis 3:6-7
    • And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was delightful to look at, and a tree to be desired in order to make one wise and insightful, she took some of its fruit and ate it; and she also gave some to her husband with her, and he ate.
    • Then the eyes of the two of them were opened [that is, their awareness increased], and they knew that they were naked; and they fastened fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.

The wages or consequences of sin is death.

  •  Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God [that is, His remarkable, overwhelming gift of grace to believers] is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The life is in the blood.

  • Genesis 9:3-5
    • Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you; I give you everything, as I gave you the green plants and vegetables.
    • But you shall not eat meat along with its life, that is, its blood.
    • For your lifeblood I will most certainly require an accounting; from every animal [that kills a person] I will require it. And from man, from every man’s brother [that is, anyone who murders] I will require the life of man.

Our blood started dying when Adam sinned. Look back at Genesis 2:17. The phrase “certainly die” refers to both spiritually and physically, physical death in the sense of becoming mortal; they were created immortal. Jesus’ blood is still pure. We needed a blood transfusion. Our blood was corrupted.

The blood of animals was only a temporary solution.

  • Hebrews 9:12-14
    • He went once for all into the Holy Place [the Holy of Holies of heaven, into the presence of God], and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, having obtained and secured eternal redemption [that is, the salvation of all who personally believe in Him as Savior].
    • For if the sprinkling of [ceremonially] defiled persons with the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a [burnt] heifer is sufficient for the cleansing of the body,
    • how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal [Holy] Spirit willingly offered Himself unblemished [that is, without moral or spiritual imperfection as a sacrifice] to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works and lifeless observances to serve the ever living God?

Without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin.

  • Hebrews 9:22
    •  In fact under the Law almost everything is cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness [neither release from sin and its guilt, nor cancellation of the merited punishment].

Jesus died and shed His blood once for all.

  • Romans 5:12-14
    • Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, so death spread to all people [no one being able to stop it or escape its power], because they all sinned.
    • Sin was [committed] in the world before the Law [was given], but sin is not charged [against anyone] when there is no law [against it]. Yet death ruled [over mankind] from Adam to Moses [the Lawgiver], even over those who had not sinned as Adam did. Adam is a type of Him (Christ) who was to come [but in reverse—Adam brought destruction, Christ brought salvation].

Jesus died in our place. His blood now covers us so that we can have forgiveness of sin. That forgiveness is our cancellation of the punishment that would be our wages or just reward.

The Gift of Salvation: A Christian Perspective

Everyone has sinned and needs salvation. Salvation comes by grace through faith based on the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

  • Romans 3:23-25
    • For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
  • Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
  • Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.
  • Acts 2:38-39 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Understanding the Law: From Sinai to Christ

Israel at Sinai (The Time of the Law)

  • Moses brought Israel from the Red Sea into the wilderness of Sinai. When they came to Marah, they found bitter water, unsuitable for drinking. When the people murmured against Moses, God showed him a tree. When Moses cut it down and cast it into the water, the water became sweet. Sometimes life may be bitter, but Jesus is the Tree that can sweeten every life.
  • After three months on their journey from Egypt, they arrived at Mt. Sinai. The people remained there for a period of one year. What took place at Sinai marked the beginning of Israel’s national history. The covenant that God made with Abraham and confirmed to Isaac and Jacob became a national covenant.
  • At Mt. Sinai, God gave Moses the law, which included the Ten Commandments as well as other moral, ceremonial, and civil laws. God intended for Israel to live by the law until Jesus came in the fullness of time. “The law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith” (Galatians 3:24). The law pointed out sin and the shortcomings of all human efforts to live holy without God’s indwelling Spirit. God also gave Moses the plan of the Tabernacle, which was the physical dwelling place of God’s Spirit in the midst of the people of Israel.

From the Tabernacle to the Cross (Read Hebrews Chapter 9)

  • The mission and the object of the law was the Cross of Christ.
  • The things shown to Moses point to the One who was to come, Jesus
    • Gal 3:24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be
      justified by faith.
  • Jesus was literally God tabernacled in flesh, God coming into this world to be our Savior
    • Mat 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall
save his people from their sins.
    • Mat 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall
call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
    • Col 1:14-15 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
    • 1 Tim 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in
the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
    • Isa 53:1-10 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?
2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. 3 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. 4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the
chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray: we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. 7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. 8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. 9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. 10 Yet it pleased the
LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

How to Accept God’s Gift of Eternal Life

God Loves you

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

A- admit you’re a sinner and repent. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Romans 5:17-21 For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

B- believe on Jesus as the only way

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.Acts 4:10-12 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

C- confess with your mouth that Jesus is your savior.

Romans 10:9-13 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

D- Depart from Evil
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Psalm 34:14 Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.
Continue reading and studying the Bible. John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

The Path to Salvation: Key Scriptures Explained

Who Shall be Saved? The disciples of Jesus even asked this question after hearing the teaching of Jesus. Jesus had said, “That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.”

The Bible says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever, believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). This scripture is interesting because it says, “should not perish”. I have always wondered why the word “should” was used. Why not the word “will”? So, is it possible to have a form of belief and still not be saved? After careful reading and studying, I have determined that the answer is Yes. James 2:19 says, “You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.” Moreover, Matthew 7:21-23 says, ““Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’”.

Why are some saved and some not? What can we do to know that we are saved? Well, a good start is reading the instruction manual. Just like televisions, cars, and washing machines come with an instruction manual; we also have an instruction manual. It is called the Holy Bible. Simply reading it and applying it to your life and your heart can solve many problems. Additionally, the Bible clearly says what we must do to insure our salvation. Here are four scriptures that give a clear picture of who will and who will not be saved.

1. Acts 2:38 says, “…Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

2. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

3. Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

4. Matthew 19:26 says, “But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.”

From the scriptures it is clear that those who truly repent of their sins, want Jesus, call on his name, and then seek after the kingdom of God will be saved. To repent means to renounce and turn completely away from sin. Thus, it seems that a relationship with Jesus is the most important thing. Those that have a real relationship with Jesus will follow and do the will of Jesus. As we walk and talk with Jesus daily, he will abide with us. Hence, when we see Jesus’ face to face on the Day of Judgment he will be capable of saying with a smile, well done my good and faithful servant.

The Link Between Righteousness and Effective Prayer

What Does Righteousness Have to Do with Prayer?

 Proverbs 15:29

The Lord is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.

James 5:16

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

  •  Righteousness is the key to effective prayer.
    • Psalm 66:18-20: If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me: But verily God hath heard me; he hath attended to the voice of my prayer. Blessed be God, which hath not turned away my prayer, nor his mercy from me.
      • Iniquity (meaning)
        • gross injustice : wickedness
        • a wicked act or thing : sin
  • The Great Transfer
    • Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
      • No one is righteous.
    • 2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
      • Righteousness:
        • Equity of character
        • Justification
        • “Right standing with God”
          • God made Jesus to know sin so that we could be reconciled to Him. He will hear us only if we come to him and repent of all our sins.
  • Clean Heart and Confession
    • Psalm 51:5-17 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me. Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice. Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.  Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.  Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.  Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness. O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise. For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
    • 2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
      • Humble yourself
      • Turn from sin
    • James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
    • 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
    • Confess your sins. Then come to him with your cares, wants, needs, desires, heartaches, etc.

God’s Plan of Salvation: Past, Present, Future

Salvation History – Past, Present, and Future

God’s Faithfulness to all Mankind- to All Generations

Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:

I have declared the former things from the beginning; and they went forth out of my mouth, and I shewed them; I did them suddenly, and they came to pass. Because I knew that thou art obstinate, and thy neck is an iron sinew, and thy brow brass; I  have even from the beginning declared it to thee; before it came to pass I shewed it thee: lest thou shouldest say, Mine idol hath done them, and my graven image, and my molten image, hath commanded them.

  1. God Has a plan
    • Before the foundation of the world, God’s determinate counsel had a plan for the redemption of mankind – a reconciling of man to God. God wanted a people for Himself. Acts 2:23-24; Eph 1; Rev 13:8; Ex 19:4-6
  2. God speaks the plan
    • Hebrews 1:1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
    • Timeline
    •
  3. God executes the plan
    • God Demonstrates His plan through the nation of Israel- Genesis chapters 11-25- the call and birthing of God’s chosen nation – Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, 12 sons/ tribes
  4. God accomplishes the plan
    • The Promise of the Redeemer – Gen. 3:15
    • But Now Jesus – Romans 3:21-26
    • Birth, Ministry, Death, Burial, Resurrection- Gospels
    • John 19:30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
    • John 14:2-3 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
  5. God completes the plan
    • Revelations 21:3-7 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
    • Revelations 22:12-13 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
Acts 15:18
Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.
