Cooking with Kids: Simple Recipe Ideas

My 12 -year-old daughter loves to help me cook and has a passion for making desserts. She’s the main one in our house who prepares the sweets and also assists me in posting the recipes here. These recipes are some of her favorites to make. While they’re great for older kids, younger kids can also try them with a bit of adult supervision.

Homemade Ranch Dressing

This is so easy to make, and it is delicious. We use this on the Colorful Pasta Salad Recipe for Fresh Summer Meals. I mix up the dry ingredients and store in a mason jar until I am ready to use it.

Dry Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup powdered milk
  • 2 tablespoons dry parsley
  • 1 teaspoon dill
  • 1 Tablespoon onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons onion flakes
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons chives

Wet Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 3/4 cup milk

Directions:

  1. Mix up all of the dry ingredients and place in a storage container such as a mason jar.
  2. When ready to use, combine all of the wet ingredients with 3 Tablespoons of the dry ingredients.
  3. Stir well and refrigerate at least 20 minutes before using. This makes about 12 ounces of salad dressing (1 bottle of dressing).
